Detox Sugar Cleanse

Almost time to kick off our 3 – week Cleanse Detox! Since detoxing involves removing harmful substances from our body week one is all about cutting out the toxic 4 – sugar, caffeine, wheat and dairy (avoiding these foods for 2 weeks and then reintroducing them is a great way to help you understand just how each effects your energy, digestion, skin and mood).

So let’s start by reminding ourselves about the damaging effects of sugar and why it’s the first thing to cut out to give our body a break:

• Depresses our immune system
• Elevates triglyceride and cholesterol levels
• Raises insulin levels – and inflammation and fat storage (especially around the middle!)
• Raises adrenaline levels – increases stress (don’t we have enough already?)
• Robs our body of nutrients
• Promotes depression (messes with our brain chemistry)
• Accelerates aging and promotes wrinkles

So it’s out with the sweets, cakes, biscuits, white bread, croissants, soft drinks (sugar free too!), granola bars, fruit yogurt, commercial fruit juices, chocolate, puddings, muffins, granola (and most breakfast cereals), dried fruit – and alcohol (to name a few)

Sugar is one of the hardest foods for most of us to give up. That’s because it’s actually addictive. But it is worth toughing it out – and it does get easier.
